• Q: How to install the LH secondary camshaft intermediate timing chain on 2003 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: To install the left Timing Chain, using the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212), the left cylinder head camshafts are to be secured. Install the left Timing Chain Guide and do the lower left Timing Chain Guide bolt (loosely installed). Then, install the left Timing Chain shoe with its respective bolt and tighten it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Lower the left Timing Chain down through the left cylinder head, landing it on the Camshaft ends, looping it around the inner row of the Timing Chain sprocket teeth. Mount the left intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets to the chain so that the "li" notch sticks into the intake Camshaft pin and the "le" notch sticks into the exhaust Camshaft pin. If necessary, use an open wrench on the hex cast forward of each Camshaft for alignment. Loosely install the left intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets bolts and aligns with the cylinder head. Walk over the upper and lower left Timing Chain Guide bolts to tighten them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Collapse the left Timing Chain Tensioner by twisting the ratchet release lever counterclockwise direction and twist the ratchet lever till it lands on its first detent to lock in place the collapsing tensioner shoe with the use of a pin. Install the left Timing Chain Tensioner and its bolts and tighten them to the specification of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and later remove the pin on the lever of the tensioner.
