- Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on 2003 Cadillac Escalade?A: Start your brake caliper replacement by checking fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. Reduce the fluid to reach the midpoint when the level is above that area between maximum and minimum marks. Raise the vehicle and take off the wheel and tire before proceeding. Push the brake caliper pistons back using a large c-clamp on the top of the housing unit until they return completely. Install a rubber cap to the brake pipe ending while cleaning the hose to stop fluid leaks and keep out contaminants. Take out and discard the brake hose to caliper bolt along with its stuck gaskets. The gaskets may adhere to both caliper and brake hose. Disconnect the brake hose from the caliper prior to removing the bolt and nut because pushing the brake pedal while working can crack the caliper housing. Untuck the brake caliper from its mounting bracket. To install the new brake caliper fit it to the mounting bracket while eliminating all remnants of the old patch and cleaning the bolt threads with brake parts cleaner. Apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) onto brake caliper bolt threads before placing and tightening the assembly into position at 108 n.m (80 lb ft). Put in two new copper brake hose gaskets and fasten the brake hose to caliper bolt with a torque setting of 40 n.m (30 lb ft). Finally remove the rubber fitting cover from the brake hose. After bleeding the hydraulic brake lines you should put on the tire and wheel parts and put the vehicle down before filling the master cylinder with new brake fluid.
