2003 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Secondary Air Injection Check Valve for Bank 2 on 2003 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: A proper service of the bank 2 secondary air injection (AIR) check valve starts with removing the Intake Manifold and clamps and air hoses from the air system right pipe while working on a cool engine to avoid burns. The next step requires removing the Cylinder Head air pipe bolt while separating the right air pipe from the manifold. Service technicians should test the check valve by connecting it to a Vacuum Pump at the air pump nipple side while applying 10 inches hg vacuum pressure to check if the vacuum reaches zero within 5 seconds; failure to meet this requirement indicates a new check valve is needed. Screw the new check valve onto the air pipe but tighten it only to 23 n.m (17 lb ft) then twist the right air pipe to the Exhaust Manifold reaching a torque of 20 n.m (15 lb ft). First connect the hose and clamp to the check valve while installing the airflow pipe bolt into the Cylinder Head before finally reinstalling the Intake Manifold. The installation process ends by checking the air system operation before reattaching the negative Battery Cable and programming transmitters.
