2003 Chevrolet Malibu Coolant Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front coolant reservoir in a cooling system on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: You need to drain the cooling system before replacing the surge tank. The Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) need to be used for repositioning the hose clamps before completing the hose and electrical connector low coolant switch disconnection from the surge tank. Start by disconnecting the coolant return hose before you remove the radiator surge tank bolt and tank. The next procedure requires removal of the low coolant switch from the container. Installation begins with attaching the low coolant switch to the tank followed by fitting the surge tank into the vehicle. Screw on the surge tank bolt and apply torque to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Position and install the hose clamps at the surge tank using Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) after you connect the coolant return hose and coolant hoses to the surge tank. After installation, connect the low coolant switch electrical connector while filling the cooling system at the radiator surge tank.
