2003 Chevrolet Tracker Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the outer tie rod end on 2003 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Vehicle support and tire and wheel removal must happen first before anyone can replace the outer tie rod end. Use the Tie Rod Puller (J6627-A) to disconnect the outer tie rod end from the knuckle after removing its outer tie rod nut from the knuckle. Paint the inner tie rod thread matching point then untighten the tie rod lock nut before removing the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod. The tie rod lock nut installation to the inner tie rod match mark requires no torque because the outer tie rod end gets installed onto the inner tie rod . When tightening the outer tie rod nut apply support and stenting force to the outer tie rod end using a jack to stop the ball stud rotation. After joining the outer tie rod end to the knuckle you should torque the outer tie rod nut to a value of 43 Nm (31.5 ft. lbs.). Measuring wheel alignment completes the procedure before reinstalling the tire and wheel assembly while necessary toe adjustments can be made. Lower the car after securing the tie rod lock nut with 65 Nm (47 ft. lbs.) torque setting.
