2003 Chevrolet Tracker Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to assemble the Power Steering Pump on 2003 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Start Power Steering Pump assembly by coating the oil seal lip with wheel bearing lubricant gm p/n 1051344 (Canadian P/N 993037) or equally acceptable lubricant. The shaft sliding surface requires application of dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid gm p/n 12346143 (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent before inserting the pulley's shaft from the oil seal side of the pump body. The next step involves applying dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid to the o-rings and installing the o-rings (1,2) to the pump body before you can install the side plate by aligning the dowel pins with the bolt hole. The rotor installation procedure requires application of dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid to its sliding surface followed by orientation with the dot facing up before attaching it to the shaft. Add a brand-new snap ring to the shaft before it finds its position in the shaft groove. Install the cam ring to the pump body after applying dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid onto its sliding surface while flattening its tapered end towards the side plate. Apply dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid to each vane followed by installation of 10 vanes to the rotor structure. Add the pump shaft snap ring before putting dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid on the o-ring and installing it to the pump body. The work sequence starts with the application of dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid to both the sliding surfaces of the pump cover and rotor then adding the dowel pins (3,4) to corresponding cover plate holes before installing the cover onto the pump body. Insert and secure the 4 pump cover bolts (1,2,3,4) onto the pump cover while torquing them to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). The pump body needs dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid applied to its pressure switch o-ring before installation with a torque setting to 28 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Place dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid on the relief valve before installing it to the pump body followed by the flow control spring. Installation requires use of dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid on the plug o-rings before inserting them into the plug while tightening it to 60 nm (43.5 ft. Lbs.). Put dexron-iii automatic transmission fluid on the suction connector o-ring before installing the o-ring to the suction connector. The power steering gear outlet hose connector should be mounted to the pump body before obtaining bolt torque of 10 nm (88.5 inch lbs.) for installation of the Power Steering Pump to the vehicle.
