Three tools will be needed for this repair: drive axle swage ring clamp (J 41048), snap ring pliers (J 8059), and drive axle seal clamp pliers (J 35910). Start by cutting the CV Joint's large seal retaining clamp off with side cutters then dispose of it. The swage ring needs hand grinder cuts for removal. After removing the CV Joint outer race at its large diameter you can pull the outboard seal along the halfshaft bar. Use pliers to wipe CV Joint inner race grease off before you spread the snap ring pliers across race retaining ring ears. Extract the CV Joint assembly from the halfshaft bar followed by disposal of the outboard seal. A brass drift tool enables you to tap and shift the CV Joint cage to remove chrome alloy balls over six separate removal steps. Use cleaning solvent to eliminate all old grease and contaminants from the inner and outer race assemblies and CV Joint cage and chrome alloy balls. Then dry all components completely before moving forward. Check the CV Joint assembly for signs of abnormal wear as well as cracks or damages before replacing any compromised parts.
