2003 GMC Envoy Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Sensor for Side Impact on 2003 GMC Envoy?
A: Disabling the SIR system to replace the Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor. Care must be taken not to strike or jolt the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS) as well as ensure that the restraint is correctly fastened prior to applying power so that SIR does not trigger or cause personal injury. To start, remove the front door trim panel, and peel back the rear half of the water deflector to gain entry to the side impact sensor. Take out the screws holding the side impact sensor to the door and remove the impact sensor electrical connector. Remove the side impact sensor from the door. In installing the side impact sensor, first of all, tidy up the mounting surface of any particles, impurities or grease and place the side impact sensor horizontally to the door and connect the electrical connector with it. Screw down the screws to attach the side impact sensor to the door until a torque tightening of 8 N.m (71 lb in) has been achieved. Swab fully the water deflector to the door and replace the door trim panel. Finally, enable the SIR system.
