2003 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the distributor on 2003 GMC Safari?
A: You need to start by turning off the ignition before you remove the engine cover, air cleaner assembly and air intake resonator assembly. Counselors must disconnect Spark Plug Wires at the Distributor Cap by turning the wires 1/2 turn clockwise before extracting the wires by their wire boot. Pull the electrical connector off the Distributor base before unscrewing the 2 Distributor Cap holding screws which you should discard afterward. Write two discolored marks on the Distributor covering with a grease pencil to indicate the rotor's original spot in relation to both the Distributor housing and Intake Manifold. During Distributor removal the rotor moves counter-clockwise 42 degrees until you should make your reference point on the base of the Distributor to position properly when reinstalling. You need to start by removing the mounting clamp hold-down bolt before extracting the Distributor. The first installation procedure requires two marks on a new Distributor housing to identify the locations where the original marks existed. Before inserting the Distributor guide the components into the engine through the Intake Manifold so the hole in the Distributor base will align seamlessly with the Intake Manifold mounting hole. After installation check if the rotor segment clearly shows the second mark. The Distributor requires installation to produce a clockwise rotor movement of 42 degrees. When the Distributor reaches its seating position check that the rotor segment matches the Distributor base mark. Keep reinstalling the Distributor until the rotor segment matches the Distributor base's mark or replace it. The Distributor mounting clamp bolt requires torque at 25 n.m (18 lb ft) to achieve the proper tension. Tighten the new Distributor Cap screws to 2.4 n.m (21 lb in). After reattaching the electrical connector install the Spark Plug Wires and ignition coil wire while verifying their proper placement. The redistribution lamp indicates incorrectvironmental conditions dtc p1345 when it lights up after installation. This shows improper Distributor setup. During installation procedure 2 the crankshaft balancer needs to be turned clockwise until its alignment marks match the engine's front cover tabs and the number 1 Piston reaches tdc of the compression stroke. Place the white paint mark located on the Distributor's bottom stem against the gear's pre-drilled indent hole. Guiding the Distributor into position requires a long screwdriver to align the oil pump drive shaft to the Distributor's drive tab while ensuring both components face forward together with the rotor segment pointed at the Distributor base pointer. Mount the Distributor clamp bolt with 25 n.m (18 lb ft) torque strength afterward secure the Distributor Cap with 2.4 n.m (21 lb in). After replacing all necessary connections, install spark plug and ignition coil wires with the right orientations in mind. The installation procedure should be repeated if the malfunction indicator lamp shows illumination after completing setup. Finally, install the engine cover.
