2003 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2003 GMC Safari?
A: Start Crankshaft Position Sensor service by installing a scan tool to monitor any powertrain control module dtc's. Consult the diagnostic trouble code list for detailed instructions about other dtc's which exist outside of p0315. The selected crankshaft position variation learn procedure on the scan tool requires drivers to hit wot then let go of the throttle when the engine's fuel cut-off kicks in before engine rpm exceeds its calibrated threshold. Throttle release must occur instantly when fuel cut-off occurs. Start by blocking the drive wheels while applying the parking brake without the brake pedal before cycling from off to on ignition position then hold the brake pedal and begin the engine with a/c off in park or neutral position. The scan tool tracks the activity of three sensors: crankshaft position (CKP) sensor activity and camshaft position (CMP) sensor activity together with engine coolant temperature (ECT). When coolant temperature becomes low keep engine running at idle until it reaches proper temperature range. Allow the crankshaft position system variation learn procedure through the scan tool while driving at wide-open throttle then let go of the throttle exactly when the engine begins slowing down so that engine control returns to you. When fuel cut-off happens the scan tool shows learn status during throttle release. Learned this ignition. The ckp variation learn procedure becomes complete when the dtc p0315 runs successfully. For an unrun or failed dtc p0315 refer to dtc p0315 while other dtc's should be checked against the dtc list. When learning is complete turn off the ignition for 30 seconds.
