Knock Sensor

The service process for the Knock Sensor begins by taking off the Intake Manifold followed by knocking off the Knock Sensor electrical connector and disturbing the Knock Sensor. First fasten the Knock Sensor with a torque of 25 n.m (18 lb ft) and then connect the Knock Sensor electrical connector before reinstalling the Intake Manifold.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor service & repair procedure consists of the execution of the ckp system variation learn procedure in which the powertrain control module (PCM) learns the quantity of Crankshaft position (CKP) system variation; the calculated value is stored in the non-volatile area within the electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM). The process is required when dtc p1336 is displayed or if there is a need to change pcm, engine, Crankshaft, or Crankshaft Position Sensor, engine repairs that would interfere with Crankshaft to Crankshaft Position Sensor relationship. Before commencing, engage the parking brake and apply the drive wheels in order to minimize risks of personal injury, along with disconnecting the throttle straight away in the case the engine decelerate, to prevent an excessive number of revolutions. First,activate the parking brake, obstruct the drive wheels and ensure the hood is closed and start the engine until the coolant temperature is at least 70°c (158°f). Turn off the ignition, click and activate Crankshaft position variation learn procedure and use scan tools. Turn on the vehicle, depress and hold firmly the service Brake Pedal (and make sure that the transaxle is in park). Cluster at around 5150 rpm to reach the fuel cutoff, instantly release accelerator pedal; the compensating values are learned when the rpm drops back to idle. Finally, check the dtc status for dtc p1336; if dtc p1336 waslog and passed, this procedure is done. If it shows failure or not run, diagnose for other dtcs and in case there is no other dtcs, repeat the procedure as required.

First service the Knock Sensor by removing the Intake Manifold before disconnecting its electrical connector and removing the sensor unit. Installation process includes sensor placement followed by tightening it to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) then connection of electrical components before reinstalling the Intake Manifold.

Detach the negative Battery Cable as the first step to service the Knock Sensor. Start by removing the engine cover and then disconnect the Knock Sensor harness connector . Disassemble the process by first taking off the Knock Sensor bolt followed by the removal of the Knock Sensor. Install the Knock Sensor first then fasten it with the Knock Sensor bolt while setting the torque to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Service of the Knock Sensor begins by connecting the negative Battery Cable and continues with disconnecting the Knock Sensor harness connector followed by reinstalling the engine cover and completing the sequence by reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.

Start the ks replacement process by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable while adhering to battery disconnect caution. First disconnect the Knock Sensor harness connector. After that remove the Distributor along with fuel pipes until you can disconnect the Knock Sensor harness. First remove the Knock Sensor retaining bolt then extract the Knock Sensor. Installation involves positioning the new Knock Sensor in position followed by bolt tightening to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). First reconnect the Knock Sensor harness connector and then reinstall the fuel pipes before adding the Distributor and finally connect the negative Battery Cable.

To reflect the Knock Sensor (KS), go ahead and unplug the negative Battery Cable first. Next pull off the Distributor and fuel pipes and disconnect the Knock Sensor knock harness connector. The Knock Sensor retaining bolt and Knock Sensor should be removed. Installation: start by installing the Knock Sensor and bolt and ensure that the sensor has been tightened in 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Then join the Knock Sensor harness connector, reinstall the pipe and Distributor, and reconnect the negative Battery Cable last.

Begin Knock Sensor (KS) replacement by taking notes on battery disconnect caution then disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Start by detaching the engine cover before taking off the ks harness connector. Start byfunctions by removing the ks bolt to remove the ks from its position. Before installation secure the new Knock Sensor with the bolt while tightening it until it reaches 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Next connect the ks harness connector before reinstalling the engine cover.

To access the Knock Sensor, you will need to deactivate the negative Battery Cable. Next, take off the Distributor and the fuel pipes. Unplug the Knock Sensor harness connector, then take off the Knock Sensor retaining bolt along with the Knock Sensor. For installation, start with installing Knock Sensor and bolt, and tighten the sensor of 25 n.m (18 lb ft). This is followed by reconnecting the Knock Sensor harness connector before replacing the fuel pipes as will as the Distributor. Lastly, reconnect to the negative Battery Cable.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor service starts with scanning the powertrain control module (PCM) through a scan tool to check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) but additional investigation should occur if any dtcs other than p1336 appear. The technician will perform the crankshaft position (CKP) variation learn procedure on the diagnostic tool and check how long the engine's fuel supply becomes cut-off. The scan tool requires users to perform these sequential steps: wheelchair blocking, vehicle brake application, ignition cycle from off to on, maintaining brake pedal pressure, engine start and idling, a/c system deactivation, and transmission placement into park (A/T) or neutral (M/T). The scan tool conducts monitoring of ckp sensor activities together with cmp sensor monitoring as well as engine coolant temperature (ECT). Address any unmet conditions immediately. Enable the ckp system variation learn procedure after preparation but immediately release the throttle whenever engine deceleration occurs to let engine control restore to operator control. Take the engine speed from idle to the specified rpm level by slow throttle actuation while releasing the throttle when the engine reaches the fuel cut-off threshold. After activating the learn status mode the scan tool will show another message. Learned this ignition." engine symptoms need to be checked if the message does not appear and no new dtcs display. Check the dtc list to find details because a dtc is present. After a successful learn procedure conclusion turn off ignition for 30 seconds.

To replace the Knock Sensor (KS), one must first remove the Intake Manifold, and subsequently the ks wire harness assembly, and finally remove the ks unit. For installation, first root the ks and fasten to a torque of 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Then, fix the ks wiring harness assembly and lastly tighten the Intake Manifold.

Before starting ks replacement work disconnect the negative Battery Cable according to the battery disconnect caution. Our replacement process starts with removing engine protection followed by disconnecting the Knock Sensor harness connector. Finish the knob sensor bolt installation followed by the removal of the Knock Sensor itself. Start by installing your Knock Sensor and your Knock Sensor bolt according to the component fastener tightening notice and apply 25 n.m (18 lb ft) torque to the sensor bolt before tightening it. Reconnect the Knock Sensor harness connector before reinstalling the engine cover and lastly reconnect the negative Battery Cable.

Before beginning Knock Sensor maintenance always disconnect and safely handle the negative Battery Cable while following the specified battery disconnect caution procedures. Start by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable but follow the battery disconnect warning. Next remove Distributor and fuel pipe components and disconnect knockout sensor harness connector. First remove the retaining bolt holding the Knock Sensor then extract the sensor. The new Knock Sensor requires bolt installation using 25 n.m (18 lb ft) torque specifications. After reconnecting the negative Battery Cable, return the fuel pipes, Distributor and Knock Sensor harness connector in order.

Installation of a scan tool should be followed by powertrain control module dtc monitoring when performing Crankshaft Position Sensor service or repair. You should review the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) list for other dtcs except dtc p0315. Proceed with the crankshaft position variation learn procedure on the scan tool, then execute wot acceleration followed by throttle release before the engine reaches its rpm limit during fuel cut-off. Rush to release the throttle right away when the engine passes beyond the rpm limit. Proceed with these steps: block the drive wheels, set the parking brake without touching the Brake Pedal, cycle through off-to-on ignition before holding the brake since the engine operates at idle with a/c off and vehicle positioned in park or neutral. The scan tool tracks particular component signals which comprise ckp sensor activity next to cmp sensor activity while recording engine coolant temperature. Continue engine idling until the coolant temperature reaches its proper level. Through the scan tool follow the crankshaft position system variation learn procedure then drive at wide open throttle but immediately release throttle control when the engine starts slowing down to recover engine control. A fuel cut-off condition will reveal learn status during throttle release through the scan tool. Learned this ignition. The system finishes its ckp variation learn process once dtc p0315 successfully runs without error. Check dtc p0315 first when the learn procedure fails or if the learn procedure never runs followed by inspection of all other dtcs in the system. A 30-second ignition-off period should follow successfully executing the learn process.

Connect the knock sensor electrical connector.

Reinstall the intake manifold.

Reconnect the crankshaft sensor electrical connector.

Disconnect the crankshaft sensor electrical connector and remove the crankshaft retaining bolt.

Lower the vehicle, start the engine, and check for any oil leaks around the crankshaft sensor, then perform the CKP System Variation Learn Procedure.

Install the knock sensor and tighten it to 19 N.m (14 lb ft).

Install the knock sensor and tighten it to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

Select the crankshaft position variation learn procedure.

Release the throttle immediately when the engine starts to decelerate, allowing the engine control to return to the operator.

Disconnect the crankshaft sensor electrical connector, identifying the CKP sensor as needed.

Replace the O-ring if necessary.

Replace the O-ring and lubricate it with clean engine oil.

If the scan tool indicates that DTC P1336 ran and passed.

Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.

Remove the steering linkage shield mounting bolts and then the steering linkage shield.

First, raise the vehicle and, if equipped with the underbody shield package, remove the steering linkage shield mounting bolts and then the steering linkage shield.

First, raise the vehicle.

Reinstall the engine cover and reconnect the negative battery cable.

Reinstall the steering linkage shield and secure it with the mounting bolts tightened to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

First, raise the vehicle.

Ensure it is fully seated before tightening the mounting bolt to avoid erratic performance and false DTCs.

Ensure the ignition key is in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads are OFF; disconnect the negative battery cable.

Connect the knock sensor electrical connector.

Disconnect the CKP sensor harness connector, remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt, and take out the CKP sensor.

Reconnect the CKP sensor harness connector and reinstall the steering linkage shield along with its mounting bolts, tightening them to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

Reconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector.

Disconnect the knock sensor harness connector.

Remove the intake manifold.

Remove the Air Deflector and the engine mount.

Enable the Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn Procedure on the scan tool, and during the learn process, release the throttle immediately when the engine starts to decelerate.

Remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt and take out the CKP sensor.

Begin by placing the knock sensor and securing it with the knock sensor bolt, tightening it to 25 N.m (18 lb ft) as per the Component Fastener Tightening Notice.

Then, remove the KS bolt and take out the KS.

Reinstall the steering linkage shield and tighten the mounting bolts for the shield to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

Reinstall the fuel pipes and the distributor.

Remove the CKP sensor retaining fastener and then the CKP sensor itself.

Reconnect the CKP sensor harness connector.

Begin by installing a scan tool and monitoring the powertrain control module for DTC's.
