How to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2002 GMC Safari?

Begin the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor replacement by performing vehicle elevation. Steering linkage shield mounting bolts need removal before the shield can be removed from vehicles that have the underbody shield package. First disconnect the ckp sensor harness then remove the mounting bolt to take out the ckp sensor. You must ensure complete sensor seating before bolting down the sensor mounting bracket to stop erratic behavior and prevent dtc false alarms. Reusing the original o-ring during these procedures is prohibited. Install a new o-ring on the ckp sensor before application by treating it with clean engine oil. Prior to mounting the ckp sensor secure the surface area by removing all burrs before fastening it with the mounting bolt that must be tightened to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Stow the steering linkage shield and connect the ckp sensor harness and tighten its mounting bolts to 33 n.m (24 lb ft). The vehicle must be lowered next to carry out the ckp system variation learn procedure.
