2002 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2002 GMC Safari?
A: To span and repair the Camshaft Position Sensor, one should start by removing the engine cover, then the ignition coil wire can be removed off the Distributor, also the Spark Plug Wires. Then, remove the camshaft position (CMP) sensor harness connector from the Distributor after removing the Distributor Cap screws and the Distributor Cap itself. After that, unbolt and remove the rotor screws and rotor and align the square slot of reluctor wheel with cmp sensor. Go ahead and remove the cmp screws and extract the cmp sensor. In installation, eschew old cap, cmp sensor, and rotor screws. Instead, replace the screws with ones coated with a thread locking compound. If you can reach the reluctor wheel slot from outside, run the cmp sensor's wire loop through that slot and push the cmp sensor into place. Screw in new cmp mounting screws to 2.2 n.m (19 lb in). Next, mount the rotor on to the reluctor wheel and fasten it with new rotor screws, which should be tightened to 2 n.m (18 lb in). Mount one more Distributor Cap and fasten using new Distributor Cap screws to 2.4 n.m (21 lb in). Lastly, join the cmp sensor harness connector, reconnect the Spark Plug Wires and ignition coil wire, and remount the engine cover.
