How to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2004 Chevrolet Astro?

To replace the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor, you have to lift the vehicle. If fitted with the underbody shield package, there step is to remove the steering linkage shield mounting bolts and then unfasten steering linkage shield. Pull the connector's plug off the CKP sensor harness, unbolt the CKP sensor, and then pull it off. It is important to ensure that upon installation, the new CKP sensor is sitting properly before tightening the mounting bolt on an old CKP sensor to prevent erratic performance and DTC codes; Do not reuse the original O-ring. Replace the O-ring of the CKP sensor with a new one and lubricate it with a clean engine oil before fixing it onto the vehicle. Finally, make sure to clean up the mounting surface for CKP sensor which does not have any burrs and install the CKP sensor and fix it with the mounting bolt with a tightening torque of 9 Nm (80 lb in.). Reconnect the CKP senor harness connector and reinstall the steering linkage shield and secure it with the mounting bolts tightening it to 33 Nm (24 lb ft). Lastly, drop the vehicle, and conduct a CKP System Variation Learn Procedure.
