2004 Chevrolet Astro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2004 Chevrolet Astro?
A: Start the camshaft position (CMP) sensor replacement by disassembling the engine cover followed by removing Spark Plug Wires together with the Distributor ignition coil wire. Disconnect the harness connector of the cmp sensor from the Distributor and proceed with the sensor replacement. The first step requires screw removal from the Distributor Cap before moving on to separate the cap and then uninstall the rotor screws and rotor. Insert the square slot of the reluctor wheel onto the cmp sensor before removing the cmp screws. When installing new parts for the Distributor do not utilize repaired components especially the Distributor Cap together with cmp sensor and rotor screws because fresh screws with thread locking compound need to be implemented. Fitting the cmp sensor through the reluctor wheel slot requires new cmp mounting screws that should be tightened to 2.2 nm (19 lb in.). Apply new rotor screws to install the rotor onto the reluctor wheel before tightening them to 1.9 nm (17 lb in.). The Distributor Cap installation requires new screws which need to be tightened to 2.4 nm (21 lb in.). The last step is to reattach the engine cover while reconnecting the cmp sensor harness connector and the ignition coil wire along with the Spark Plug Wires.
