2005 Chevrolet Astro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2005 Chevrolet Astro?
A: Regular maintenance of the camshaft position (CMP) sensor begins by removing the engine cover followed by taking off Spark Plug Wires and the ignition coil wire from the Distributor and lastly disconnecting the cmp sensor harness connector from the Distributor. First separate the Distributor cap by taking out screws that secure it and removing the cap itself. Then disconnect rotor screws before removing the rotor. First set the square slot of the reluctor wheel directly with the cmp sensor before unscrewing the cmp screws to free the cmp sensor. During installation keep away from using the old cap along with cmp sensor and rotor screws because new screws treated with thread locking compound are required. Feed the cmp sensor inside the reluctor wheel slot before installing new cmp mounting screws which need to reach a torque of 2.2 n.m (19 lb in). Setup the rotor to the reluctor wheel then fasten it using new rotor screws which should be tightened at 1.9 n.m (17 lb in). Put on the Distributor cap and fasten it using new Distributor cap screws which should be tightened to 2.4 n.m (21 lb in). Reattach the engine cover after you have finished linking the cmp sensor harness connector and sparking up the ignition coil wire together with the Spark Plug Wires.
