2005 Chevrolet Astro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the distributor on 2005 Chevrolet Astro?
A: To change the Distributor, take away the engine cover and from the Distributor, label their components-the driven gear, Distributor shaft and rotor holes, so that assembling is done correctly. Keep the white paint mark, that is at the butt end of the Distributor, that is, with the indent hole already made into the bottom of the gear. Ensure that there is proper positioning of rotor segment in case of v6 engine ; if not, replace the Distributor. Re-move the two screws on the rotor and r-e-move the rotor remembering the lo- cat-ing holes in the rotor. For the square cut-hole on the vane wheel, align it into the cmp sensor, remove later the two screws that are putting the cmp sensor, and throw them away. Take out the cmp sensor, noting the dimple beneath the roll pin hole of the gear for orientation during reassembly. Key in the Distributor drive gear in a v-block and drive out the roll pin with a proper punch and then remove the driven gear, round washer, tang washer, shim washer, and the old oil seal. In assembly, align the square-cut hole in the vane wheel for the cmp sensor, place the sensor into the housing and install two new screws for the cmp sensor and provide torque of 2.2 n.m (19 lb in). Mount the correct rotor by locating the rotor screw holes and rotor locator holes at the correct position, rotate the Distributor rotor per the index marks and fasten it using two screws and tighten them to 1.9 n.m (17 lb in). Install the shim washer, tonghigh washer, and round washer and install the driven gear with reference to the index market rotating around the rotor for v6 engine or v8 engine. Make sure that the white paint mark on the bottom stem of the Distributor aligns with the pre-drilled indent hole in the bottom of the gear and that the dimple of the gear is not 180 degrees from the rotor segment. Lift the Distributor gear drive in a v-block and put in the roll pin using an appropriate punch and hammer for the fixed gear of the Distributor. Finally, install the new oil seal at the mounting flange of the Distributor base, install the Distributor, and replace the engine cover.
