2003 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower trunk latch on 2003 GMC Safari?
A: The replacement process starts with removing the trim panel from the trunk or liftgate section. If needed, insert a sharp-bladed tool between the weather strip deflector to separate it where it is perforated. First remove the control rod before disconnecting it from the lock system. Afterward install bolts and reinforcement parts. Uninstall the door latch parts along with the rod accessories from the door and the rod from the latch itself. Place the control rod and retainer onto the latch first before installing to prevent squeaks in the system. Mount the door parts including latch retainer and bolts with bolts tightened to 8Nm and 71lb in force when installing new nylon retainers for each rod removal. After joining the control rod to the lock assembly put in the water deflector then return the trim panel.
