    Q:
How to replace the upper and lower trunk latch on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
To install new trunk/liftgate latches start by taking off the trim panels from both rear doors (Cargo Doors and E54). A soft scraper will help remove the water deflector piece from the door if needed. Pull away the control rods and clip from their lever position by pushing the clip past the lever and then gently removing the rod and its anchor point from the lock. Depress the upper latch screws and remove this component as well as the upper latch. Pull the assembled assembly out of the door. First uninstall lower latch screws and then take off both reinforcement and rod from the bottom of the door. Start by connecting remote lock clips before setting in place the lower latch rod assembly on the door. After that position the reinforcement piece. Secure both lower latch screws to 8 Newton-meter torque setting (71 pounds of force). Put the upper parts of the latch and rod into their door space with any included covers. Rotate the upper latch screws until they reach 10 N.m (88 lb in) of torque. Put the control rods through their clips into the remote lock followed by replacing the water deflector and trim panel.

    Q:
How to replace the upper and lower trunk latch on GMC Safari? Posted by Customer
    A:
You must take off the trim panel from both the cargo doors and E54 for upper and lower trunk/liftgate latch replacement. When needed use a soft scraper to pry the water deflector away from its position on the door. Pull the control rod apart by pushing the clip off its position on a lever before removing the anchor piece from the small hole. Turn the door upside down after removing the upper screw and latch unit then handle the rod and trap together. Unscrew both lower latch fasteners and eliminate the reinforcement system and lower latch assembly with attached rod from the door surface. Begin your process by adding the clips to the remote lock unit before installing both lower latch and rod onto the door structure with specified reinforcement. Secure the lower latch screws to 8 N.m of torque pressure. Put the upper latch set and rod onto the door opening while installing the cover if it is available. Secure upper latch screws to 10 N.m when completing installation. Insert the control rods back through their clips and into the remote lock while placing the water deflector in its original position before fitting the trim panel for both the rear door (Cargo Doors) and the rear door (E54).

    Q:
How to replace the lower trunk latch on GMC Safari? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin your project to install a new lower trunk/liftgate latch by taking off the trim panel. A sharp-bladed tool lets you separate the weather strip deflector at its perforation if needed. Remove the lock assembly bolts after removing the control rod. Additionally, you can detach the reinforcement and bolts. To start the job remove the latch components from the door and take off the rod and retainer from the latch assembly. One side of the job starts by putting the control rod and retainer onto the latch. Position the retainer right to stop squeaks and vibrations during installation. Reassemble the door parts starting with the latch and retainer and fasten the bolts at 8 N.m (71 lb in). Replace the nylon retainers at every rod removal and installation. Simply place the control rod on its holder at the lock system before setting the water deflector in place and replacing the trim panel.
