Q: How to replace the rear trunk latch on Chevrolet Malibu?
A:
Mark the position of the latch on the lid by opening the rear compartment first. You can remove the lock cable from the lock cylinder when you spread the plastic cover with your flat tool tool and pull down. From the top of the lock release box take the lid off to view the remote release cable and detach it from the compartment box. Unplug the electrical connector from the compartment lid lock when present and remove the bolts which secure the lid. Pull the latch system out from the back door panel. Place the latch assembly in position based on the markings on the lid surface following the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Fasten the rear compartment lid latch bolts with a torque specification of 11 N.m (97 lb in). Install the remote release cable on the lock release box when available and join its electrical connector to the rear compartment lid latch. Press the rear compartment lid latch cable onto the lock cylinder and make sure it snaps into place.
