Start by supporting the tailgate for replacement of the Tailgate Latch and cable assembly by removing the tailgate cover first. Use pliers to disconnect retaining clips from the handle before removing latch rods from their clips. The support cable must move forward into position to release itself from the tailgate striker bolt. Start by unbolting the latch/support cable assembly from the tailgate before removing the full latch assembly. Install the latch/support cable assembly to the tailgate while making sure the latch rod will properly face the Tailgate Handle. Screw in the bolts which fasten the latch assembly while tightening them to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Place the support cable back on the bolt head of the tailgate striker bolt and position both latch rods inside their retaining clips before connecting the clips to the Tailgate Handle. Put back the tailgate cover before pulling the tailgate closed.

After opening and supporting the tailgate proceed by removing the tailgate cover. The tailgate latch rods require removal from their retaining clips after disconnecting the retaining clip connectors. The support cable must slide off the tailgate striker bolt head before you remove the bolts that connect the latch/support cable assembly into the tailgate structure. Uninstall the tailgate latch assembly from its location. Website the latch/support cable assembly to the tailgate by first orienting the latch rod properly against the tailgate handle before installation. Tighten the latch assembly installation bolts until they reach 25 N.m (18 lb ft) torque. The support cable attachment should go back onto the bolt head of tailgate striker bolt while you put the latch rods into retaining clips before connecting those clips to the tailgate handle. Reinstall the tailgate cover then close down the tailgate.

To remove the endgate cover and replace the endgate latch and cable assembly, first, support the endgate then make it open. Remove the clips that retain the latch rods to the handle and remove the latch rods from thereof. Then, pull the support cable forward to remove it from the end gate striker bolt head. They will want to remove the bolts holding the latch/support cable assembly to the endgate and pull out the latch assembly. For installation the latch/support cable assembly should be placed on the endgate with the latch rod oriented properly to the end gate handle. Mount the bolts to join the assembly to endgate in 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Mount the support cable on the bolt head of the endgate striker bolt, feed the latch rods into the retaining clips and attach clips to the endgate handle. Finally, install the end gate cover and close the endgate.
