  Q: How to replace the rear trunk latch on Chevrolet Classic?

  A: Begin replacing the rear compartment lid latch by opening the compartment and making marks on the lid where the latch is located. Open the rear compartment and insert a flat tool to open the plastic cover on the lock cylinder to pull out the lock cable. When the accessory exists open the cable door from the top to reach the remote release cable so you can disconnect it. Unplug the electrical connector from the compartment lid lock when available. Then remove the back compartment lid lock screws to take out the lid. Remove the latch mechanism part from the lid. Position the latch assembly on the rear compartment lid marks and secure it according to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Put the rear compartment lid latch bolts through their holes and tighten them until they reach 11 N.m (97 lb in). The remote release cable should be installed into the lock release box when this accessory is present and the electrical connector needs to be connected with the rear compartment lid latch. Press the rear compartment lid latch cable onto the lock cylinder while sliding its retainer tabs into position until the compartment closes.
