The first step to replace the idler arm involves raising and supporting the vehicle. The rotation between the idler arm and the relay rod requires removing the retaining nut and disposing of it. You should disconnect the idler arm from the relay rod by using the Ball Joint Remover tool (J43631). The next step requires removal of the idler arm to frame mounting bolts so you can take out the idler arm from the vehicle. Installation of the idler arm starts when you connect it to the frame after reading the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Install the idler arm onto frame mounting bolts before torquing them to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.). Fasten the idler arm to relay rod while also mounting a fresh idler arm to relay rod retaining nut before securing the nut to 63 Nm (47 ft. lbs.). To complete the work lower the vehicle and perform a wheel alignment check.
