Pitman Arm

Vehicle elevation followed by proper support marks the first step before starting Pitman Arm replacement. You should first disconnect the power steering gear and place it within a vise before proceeding. Detach the Pitman Arm nut while also removing its washer from the setup. The Pitman Arm separation from the pitman shaft can be accomplished with the Pitman Arm puller (J 6632-01) or the universal Pitman Arm puller (J 29107-A). Install the Pitman Arm by attaching it to the power steering gear while simultaneously aligning the marks which were marked during Pitman Arm removal between the arm and shaft. Place a new Pitman Arm washer and install the nut by tightening it to 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle while checking the wheel alignment after you remove the power steering gear from the vise and reinstall it.

The replacement process for a Pitman Arm starts by elevating the vehicle while providing proper supporting tools. Start the replacement by securing the power steering gear in a vise after removal. Remove the Pitman Arm nut followed by its washer before using the Pitman Arm puller j 6632-01 or universal Pitman Arm puller j 29107-a to free the Pitman Arm from the shaft. During installation place the new Pitman Arm at the power steering gear point while matching all marks from the removal stage between the shaft and arm components. Place the new Pitman Arm washer along with its nut on the shaft and tighten the nut to 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.). Complete the process by taking out the power steering gear from the vise and repositioning it before inspecting wheel alignment.

The first step to replace the idler arm requires the vehicle to be lifted and properly supported. Unfasten the idler arm retaining nut from the relay rod then dispose of it. The disconnect process for the idler arm from the relay rod requires the Ball Joint Remover (J 43631). The technique starts by unbolted idler arm to frame mounting bolts then the idler arm is removed from the car. Begin the installation by positioning the idler arm on the frame while you should tighten the idler arm to frame mounting bolts at 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.). The installation process requires connecting the idler arm to the relay rod before installing a new idler arm to relay rod retaining nut which should be tightened to 63 Nm (47 ft. lbs.). Below the vehicle, inspect the wheel alignment as the last step of the installation process.

Beginning the Pitman Arm replacement requires that you elevate and support the vehicle properly. Position the power steering gear in a vise after its removal. First remove the Pitman Arm nut together with its washer from the assembly. Two tools are available for detaching the Pitman Arm from the pitman shaft: the Pitman Arm puller (J6632-01) and the universal Pitman Arm puller (J29107-A). The installation requires a new Pitman Arm washer along with its necessary nut to achieve proper torque levels set at 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.). The power steering gear needs its removal from the vise before reinstallation followed by allowing the vehicle to lower and inspecting the wheel alignment.

The first step to replace the idler arm involves raising and supporting the vehicle. The rotation between the idler arm and the relay rod requires removing the retaining nut and disposing of it. You should disconnect the idler arm from the relay rod by using the Ball Joint Remover tool (J43631). The next step requires removal of the idler arm to frame mounting bolts so you can take out the idler arm from the vehicle. Installation of the idler arm starts when you connect it to the frame after reading the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Install the idler arm onto frame mounting bolts before torquing them to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.). Fasten the idler arm to relay rod while also mounting a fresh idler arm to relay rod retaining nut before securing the nut to 63 Nm (47 ft. lbs.). To complete the work lower the vehicle and perform a wheel alignment check.

The vehicle needs to be elevated for idler arm replacement work. Discard the idler arm to relay rod retaining nut before proceeding to removal. Apply the Ball Joint Remover (J 43631) to disconnect the idler arm from its position on the relay rod. After raising and supporting the vehicle you should remove the idler arm to frame mounting bolts and extract the idler arm from the vehicle. Start installation by mounting the idler arm onto the frame while tightening the idler arm mounting bolts to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.). Connect the idler arm to the relay rod then fasten a new idler arm to relay rod retaining nut while torquing it to 63 Nm (47 ft. lbs.). Lower your vehicle and verify the wheel alignment after finishing your work.

Remove the power steering gear.

Use the Ball Joint Remover (J 43631).

Install the idler arm to frame mounting bolts, tightening them to 150 N.m (111 lb ft).

Attach the pitman arm to the power steering gear, ensuring the marks made during removal are aligned on both the pitman arm and the pitman arm shaft.
