2004 Buick Century Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc on 2004 Buick Century?
A: For replacing the rear brake rotor, first, raise and also assist the vehicle. Uninstall the tire and wheel asm, and apply a c-clamp (J41013) over caliper body so ends contact rear of caliper body and of disc Brake Pad on outer side. Compress the piston into the caliper bore with the c-clamp enough to slide the caliper from the rotor and remove the c-clamp. Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire or something similar to stop the damage to the hydraulic flexible brake hose. Then, loosen the caliper bracket bolts that are holding the caliper and caliper mounting bracket assembly to the suspension knuckle without loosening the brake flexible hose bolt, and lift the brake caliper and caliper mounting bracket off the suspension knuckle with no tension on the hydraulic flex hose. Due positioning of the brake rotor to the wheel studs, remove the brake rotor . Wash of any rust or impurities from the hub/axle flange with the wheel hub resurfacing kit (J42450-A) and from the brake rotor with the rotor resurfacing kit (J41013). Check the mating surfaces to make sure there are no foreign particles on the surface, then secure the brake rotor to the hub/axle flange with matchmarking for correct orientation. In the cases where a brake rotor was removed due to brakes system repair, then it is necessary to measure the assembled lateral run out (LRO) of the brake rotor for optimal performance. And if lro goes out of specifications, then make corrections. Lastly, mount the brake caliper and the Brake Caliper Bracket as an assembly onto the suspension knuckle, put tire and wheel assembly back onto the vehicle, lower the vehicle and, if the brake rotor was refinished or replaced, burnish the pads as well as rotors.
