2004 Buick Century Wheel Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front wheel bearing and hub on 2004 Buick Century?
A: Start working on the front Wheel Bearing and hub when the vehicle is lifted off its wheels. Uninstall the tire and wheel before separating the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connection (when present) to disconnect the part from its bracket. Before you remove the wheel drive shaft nut drive a drift fork into the brake caliper and rotor to keep everything stationary. Secure the wheel nuts onto the j 42129 Wheel Hub remover (J 42129) to hook up with the Wheel Bearing/hub. Push the wheel drive shaft out using the j 42129 tool and replace with the Wheel Bearing hub assembly. Next remove and throw away the Wheel Bearing hub bolts before removing the j 42129 from the hub. Check that the wheel shaft seal and boot are intact before removing the Wheel Bearing unit plus the splash shield and note its position for later set-up. When installing the new Wheel Bearing/hub unit with its splash shield in place need to follow the removal procedure. Use new fasteners for safety and vehicle control. Replace all Wheel Bearing/hub bolts afterwards and apply 96 ft. Lbs. Of torque to each bolt. Settle the brake rotor and caliper together and apply the front wheel drive shaft nut at 160 nm (118 ft. Lbs.). Keep the drift or flat-bladed tool locked in place when you handle the rotor. Check if the connector clip fits well on the bracket surface before you connect the Wheel Speed Sensor electric wires to it and to the Wheel Speed Sensor. Place the tire and wheel on the vehicle once it returns to ground level.
