- Q: How to replace the left exhaust manifold on 2004 Buick Century?A: Begin the left Exhaust Manifold replacement process by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable then removing the air cleaner intake duct. The right engine mount strut bracket follows the thermostat bypass pipe when disconnecting. The exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts and heat shield must then be removed. First extract the nuts from the exhaust crossover pipe connected to the left Exhaust Manifold before removing the heat shield bolts from both manifold pipe ends along with their attached shield components. Proceed by taking off the left Exhaust Manifold nuts then removing the manifold together with itsropriate gasket. The inspection process must include cleaning of the left Exhaust Manifold before gasket installation and manifold assembly. The left Exhaust Manifold requires nuts installation followed by 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) torque specifications before you attach the left Exhaust Manifold heat shield and its bolts which need 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) torque. After the crossover pipe nut installation to the left Exhaust Manifold reach a torque of 25 nm (18 ft.lbs.), proceed with exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolt installation and torque them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After installation of these replacements complete the work by attaching the thermostat bypass pipe and right engine mount strut bracket as well as the air cleaner intake duct and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
