2003 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2003 Buick Century?
A: The replacement of a right Exhaust Manifold begins with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by air cleaner intake duct removal. The Throttle Body service needs engine rotation for access after separating the accelerator and cruise control cables along with their bracket. Detach the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and relocation of its Ignition Control Module bracket before disconnecting the heated Oxygen Sensor electrical connector. Unbolt the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield along with the thermostat bypass pipe before taking off the heat shield. Start by taking out crossover exhaust pipe nuts from the right Exhaust Manifold followed by lifter and suspension of the vehicle. Detach the Catalytic Converter and the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe that extends from the right Exhaust Manifold. Afterward remove all bolts from the right Exhaust Manifold heat shields which include the upper and lower shields and then disconnect the Exhaust Manifold nuts that hold the manifold in place while also removing the gasket material. Right Exhaust Manifold cleaning should be combined with an inspection process. A new right Exhaust Manifold requires removal of the heated oxygen (H02S) sensor. The installation process should start with fitting the heated oxygen (H02S) sensor and then placing the right Exhaust Manifold gasket and manifold itself when replacing the right Exhaust Manifold. First tighten manifold nuts to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.), then mount both heat shields while installing their bolts that should also receive 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) torque. Proceed to fasten the upper heat shield with its bolts while torquing them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). You should install the egr pipe first on the right Exhaust Manifold followed by the Catalytic Converter installation. Position and fasten the exhaust crossover pipe nuts to the right Exhaust Manifold with 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque. Connect the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield and its bolts at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) before fastening the thermostat bypass pipe. The first installation step involves plugging in the heated oxygen (HO2S) sensor electrical connector followed by the Ignition Control Module and its bracket installation. After that, the MAP Sensor needs to be put into place. Regulate the engine positioning before you put in the engine mount struts along with attaching the accelerator and cruise control cables to the Throttle Body and air cleaner intake duct then restore the negative Battery Cable.
