Begin the left Exhaust Manifold replacement process by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable then removing the air cleaner intake duct. The right engine mount strut bracket follows the thermostat bypass pipe when disconnecting. The exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts and heat shield must then be removed. First extract the nuts from the exhaust crossover pipe connected to the left Exhaust Manifold before removing the heat shield bolts from both manifold pipe ends along with their attached shield components. Proceed by taking off the left Exhaust Manifold nuts then removing the manifold together with itsropriate gasket. The inspection process must include cleaning of the left Exhaust Manifold before gasket installation and manifold assembly. The left Exhaust Manifold requires nuts installation followed by 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) torque specifications before you attach the left Exhaust Manifold heat shield and its bolts which need 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) torque. After the crossover pipe nut installation to the left Exhaust Manifold reach a torque of 25 nm (18 ft.lbs.), proceed with exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolt installation and torque them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After installation of these replacements complete the work by attaching the thermostat bypass pipe and right engine mount strut bracket as well as the air cleaner intake duct and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.

A technician should begin left Exhaust Manifold (3.4L) replacement by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and removing the air cleaner intake duct. Begin by first removing the right engine mount strut bracket followed by the thermostat bypass pipe. Then proceed with removing the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts and the attached heat shield. Start by removing the exhaust crossover pipe nuts from the left Exhaust Manifold before you detach the left Exhaust Manifold heat shield bolts as well as the heat shield itself. The service requires workers to remove the left Exhaust Manifold nuts followed by the removal of the manifold and also the left Exhaust Manifold Gasket. When installing the new gasket and manifold to the left Exhaust Manifold you must first clean then inspect the mating surfaces. Follow installation of the left Exhaust Manifold nuts by tightening them to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) then fasten the left Exhaust Manifold heat shield with its bolts while tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The exhaust crossover pipe receives its nuts first at the left Exhaust Manifold with 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque before attaching the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield and its bolts at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The maintenance sequence ends with the installation of the thermostat bypass pipe along with the right engine mount strut bracket and the air cleaner intake duct before reattaching the negative Battery Cable.

Install the MAP sensor, return the engine to its original position, install the engine mount struts, reconnect the accelerator and cruise control cables with the bracket to the throttle body, reinstall the air cleaner intake duct, and connect the negative battery cable.

Take off the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and the heat shield, followed by the exhaust manifold nuts and the manifold itself, discarding the old gasket and cleaning the sealing surfaces.

Install the new exhaust manifold gasket and the exhaust manifold, then install the exhaust manifold nuts, ensuring they are tightened to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).

Install the EGR valve, the MAP sensor, release the tension on the Engine Tilt Strap (J41131), install the engine mount struts, remove the Engine Tilt Strap (J41131), and install the air cleaner outlet duct.

Connect the HO2S electrical connector, install the EVAP solenoid bracket, and reattach the spark plug wires to the engine right bank spark plugs.

Clean and inspect the mating surfaces of the left exhaust manifold.

Reinstall the left engine lift bracket, tightening the nut and bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.), followed by the oil level indicator tube and the spark plug wires to the left side spark plugs.

Install the lower and upper exhaust manifold heat shields, tightening the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.), followed by the catalytic converter.

Begin by removing the windshield wiper motor cover, air cleaner intake duct, and accelerator cable bracket from the throttle body.

Detach the exhaust crossover pipe bolts from the right exhaust manifold and raise the vehicle.

Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).

Reattach the lower and upper heat shields, securing them with bolts tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.), followed by the catalytic converter.

Rotate the engine for better access.
