2005 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2005 Buick Century?
A: The first step to replace the right Exhaust Manifold involves disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by removing the air cleaner intake duct. Start by removing the accelerator and cruise control cables and their bracket from the Throttle Body before turning the engine to improve access to the area. The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and Ignition Control Module with its bracket and heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connector need to be removed. The next step involves removing both the thermostat bypass pipe and exposing the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts and finally taking off the heat shield and its components. Use a torx driver to remove the right Exhaust Manifold crossover pipe nuts followed by raising and supporting the vehicle. The right Exhaust Manifold requires removal of both its Catalytic Converter and its egr pipe. Right now you need to remove both heat shield bolts from the upper part of the right Exhaust Manifold and then remove the heat shield before moving on to uninstall the lower heat shield bolts and heat shield. Clean and visually check the Exhaust Manifold before removing its right side nuts and then taking out the manifold with its gasket. Installation of the ho2s must precede placing the gasket and manifold before tightening the nuts to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.). First reinstall the lower heat shield along with its bolts and securely fasten them to 10 nm torque (89 inch lbs). Finally install the upper heat shield followed by its bolts also with a 10 nm torque specification (89 inch lbs). After attaching the egr pipe to the right Exhaust Manifold users should reinstall the Catalytic Converter and lower the vehicle. Fasten the exhaust crossover pipe nuts onto the right Exhaust Manifold with 25 nm torque before torquing the heat shield and its bolts to 10 nm. The process involves refitting the thermostat bypass pipe followed by ho2s electrical connector attachment and Ignition Control Module plus its bracket reinstallation. As the last step install the MAP Sensor before returning the engine to its normal position and putting on the engine mount struts followed by reconnecting the accelerator and cruise control cables to the Throttle Body bracket while reinstalling the air cleaner intake duct and completing the process by connecting the negative Battery Cable.
