- Q: How to replace the left exhaust manifold (3.8L) on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?A: The procedure to replace the left Exhaust Manifold (3.8L) begins with removing the fuel injector sight shield and then taking off both right and left engine mount struts along with the lower right engine mount strut bracket. The exhaust crossover pipe requires removal from the left Exhaust Manifold while also disconnecting Spark Plug Wires from the left side spark plugs and then the oil level indicator tube. Nothing can hinder your progress during this step - extract the left engine lift bracket nut, bolt as well as the engine lift bracket. Then remove the left Exhaust Manifold heat shield nuts prior to taking out the heat shield itself. You should start by taking out all left Exhaust Manifold bolts and studs then continue by removing the left Exhaust Manifold together with its gasket. The technician should conduct surface preparation of the left Exhaust Manifold before inspection. Place the left Exhaust Manifold Gasket and left Exhaust Manifold on the Cylinder Head while torquing the left Exhaust Manifold bolts and studs to 30 nm (22 ft lbs). Lbs.) torque before continuing with oil level indicator tube and left side Spark Plug wire attachment. The procedure requires installation of the lower right engine mount strut bracket after attaching the exhaust crossover to the left Exhaust Manifold then adding the right and left engine mount struts finally covering with the fuel injector sight shield.
