How to replace the left exhaust manifold (3.4L) on Chevrolet Impala?

A technician should begin left Exhaust Manifold (3.4L) replacement by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and removing the air cleaner intake duct. Begin by first removing the right engine mount strut bracket followed by the thermostat bypass pipe. Then proceed with removing the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts and the attached heat shield. Start by removing the exhaust crossover pipe nuts from the left Exhaust Manifold before you detach the left Exhaust Manifold heat shield bolts as well as the heat shield itself. The service requires workers to remove the left Exhaust Manifold nuts followed by the removal of the manifold and also the left Exhaust Manifold Gasket. When installing the new gasket and manifold to the left Exhaust Manifold you must first clean then inspect the mating surfaces. Follow installation of the left Exhaust Manifold nuts by tightening them to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) then fasten the left Exhaust Manifold heat shield with its bolts while tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The exhaust crossover pipe receives its nuts first at the left Exhaust Manifold with 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque before attaching the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield and its bolts at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The maintenance sequence ends with the installation of the thermostat bypass pipe along with the right engine mount strut bracket and the air cleaner intake duct before reattaching the negative Battery Cable.
