  • Q: How to replace the right side exhaust manifold (RPOs LZE/LZ4/LZ8) (3.5L) on 2008 Chevrolet Impala?
    A: The first step to replace the right side Exhaust Manifold (RPOs LZE/LZ4/LZ8) (3.5L) involves removing the generator. The first step involves removal of the connector position assurance retainer followed by removing the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector. The ho2s clip attached to the ignition coil bracket can be removed while keeping the pigtail and connector intact. You should use the heated oxygen sensor socket (J 39194-B) to detach the ho2s. The work sequence begins by removing Exhaust Manifold shield bolts and shield afterward then going on to exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts before finishing with heat shield removal. Disconnect the exhaust crossover pipe from its right manifold position by removing all nuts connecting them and then remove all upper Exhaust Manifold bolts. The Exhaust Manifold assembly requires removal of its lower bolts and Catalytic Converter before disconnecting everything so discard the Exhaust Manifold Gasket. The installation procedure requires the user to place a new Exhaust Manifold Gasket on the cylinder head studs and then install the Exhaust Manifold. Reinstall the Catalytic Converter after tightening all lower Exhaust Manifold bolts to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Lower the vehicle then add the upper Exhaust Manifold bolts while tightening them to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Install the exhaust crossover pipe onto the right Exhaust Manifold nuts before fastening the heat shield and its mounting bolts. Attach the Exhaust Manifold shield after installing its bolts and tighten them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The technician must first coat the sensor threads with gm p/n 5613695 nickel-based anti-seize compound followed by installation with the heated oxygen sensor socket (J 39194-B) at 42 n.m (31 lb ft). Connect the electrical connector of the ho2s and install the cpa retainer and fasten the ho2s clip onto the ignition coil bracket before reinstalling the generator.
