2004 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2004 Buick Park Avenue?
A: A Steering Knuckle cannot be fixed without removing the tire and wheel. Therefore, you should raise and support the vehicle before taking off the tire and wheel. A drift or screwdriver should be inserted into the caliper and rotor in order to prevent the rotor from rotating, then the drive axle nut is to be removed and the brake rotor also. Unfasten the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connector and expel the Wheel Bearing and contain block chains. The front/rear spindle remover (J28733-B) will be used for removing the hub and drive axle and the steering linkage and Tie Rod puller (J24319-B) will be used for removing the Tie Rod from the Steering Knuckle. Take the dust shield and front strut to Steering Knuckle retaining bolts out and use the ball jar separater j43828 to remove the Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle and remove the Steering Knuckle. Install the new Steering Knuckle and place the lower Ball Joint in it for the installation. Install lower Ball Joint retaining nut and cotter pin and tighten the Tie Rod End to knuckle nut to 10 nm (88 inch lbs.) with 180°-300° (3-5 flats) additional with cotter pin in line and no back off on nut. Secure the outer Tie Rod to the Steering Knuckle with the retaining nut being tightened to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.). Replace the dust shield, hub and bearing on to the Steering Knuckle/ drive axle, the hub/ bearing holding bolts to 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the Wheel Speed Sensor connector, fit the rotor, fit the caliper support bracket/caliper assembly. Finally, replace the drive axle-nut while stopping the rotor from moving, by tightening it to 145 nm (107 ft. Lbs.), and then replace the tire and the wheel.
