2004 Buick Regal Rod Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the connecting rod bearing on 2004 Buick Regal?
A: Remove the Oil Pan and spark plugs from the serviced cylinders in order to replace the connecting Rod Bearing. Put the connecting rod under service to the bottom dead center, but rotate the Crankshaft, after that remove the bolts of the connecting rod cap and take it off the connecting rod, along with the lower connecting Rod Bearing that must be retained with the original connecting rod, and cap. Now create a removal of lower connecting Rod Bearing from connecting rod cap. Attach the connecting rod assembly guide (J 41507) on the connecting rod and apply the pressure to raise the connecting rod and piston, allowing for the clearance of the upper connecting Rod Bearing, which needs to be removed. Clean the oil off the bearings and examine, measuring the amount of bearing clearance. For installation, the connecting rod cap bolts should be dipped into a clean engine oil and the bearing surface can be lubricated with the clean engine oil. Install the upper connecting Rod Bearing, and then use the connecting rod assembly guide (J 41507) to pull the piston, connecting rods and upper connecting Rod Bearing down before you remove the guide. Mount the lower connecting Rod Bearing onto the connecting rod cap and then it the connecting rod cap itself. Make sure that the cap bolt holes and mating surfaces are clean and dry. Install the connecting rod cap bolting tighten the bolts to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs) and then applied using the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to turn the bolts another 50°. Check for binding if prying the rod back and forth and adjusting cap bolts as necessary. Measure the connecting rod side clearance, then the reflashing of spark plugs and the Oil Pan reinstalling, then checking the oil pressure adequately and no leaks.
