2004 Buick Regal Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2004 Buick Regal?
A: Begin Oil Pan replacement by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery first then remove the fuel injector sight shield and air cleaner intake duct. Use the engine support fixture before lifting your vehicle's height. First remove right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts from the Catalytic Converter then drain engine oil before extracting the Oil Filter. Separate the power steering oil cooler pipe brackets from the frame structure then disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector to move the wiring harness by removing its bolt. Lower the vehicle first before removing the Engine Mount lower nuts while using an engine support fixture to raise the engine into position. After repositioning the vehicle a second time remove the left Engine Mount bracket bolt along with the right stabilizer link and right Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle. Lower the frame after support with jack stands and right side frame bolt removal followed by five turns of loosening the left side frame bolts. Add the frame to a workspace before removing the Engine Mount and bracket and then removing the torque converter covers. Before pan oil removal, disconnecting the oil level sensor ensures it stays undamaged. First remove all Oil Pan bolts followed by the Oil Pan and next the oil pump pipe screen assembly and the Oil Pan Gasket needs extraction. Wash the oil screen contact area as well as the Oil Pan flange edges and pan rail and front bearing cover and main bearing frame and threaded slots. Next, install the Oil Pan Gasket alongside the oil pump pipe screen assembly while tightening the oil pump pipe screen bolts to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Apply one drop of thread lock compound gm p/n 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the Oil Pan bolts before installing these components and tightening them to 14 nm (125 inch lbs.). The oil level sensor and torque converter covers must be installed before Engine Mount and bracket use to attach to the frame. All fasteners must be tightened to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). After restoring the frame to its original height install the frame bolts and remove the jack stands. The mechanic should reinstall the Ball Joint and stabilizer link followed by a preliminary installation of bracket bolts on the right and left Engine Mount before final snug torquing to 102 nm (75 ft. Lbs.). Begin by lowering the engine with the support fixture before raising the vehicle to install the Engine Mount lower nuts at 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). After connecting the oil level sensor electrical connector you must connect the wiring harness and bolt it into place while tightening the bolt to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Reinstall the power steering oil cooler pipe brackets while installing right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts torqued to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) then add the engine Oil Filter. Put the engine mounts struts in place first followed by the air cleaner intake duct after lowering the vehicle and removing the engine support fixture. Add engine oil to the crankcase while also putting back the fuel injector sight shield then connect the negative Battery Cable before leak checks and wheel alignment measurements.
