- Q: How to replace the radiator (LA3, LY9) on 2004 Cadillac CTS?A: The first task for Radiator replacement (LA3, LY9) involves draining coolant while removing brackets from the Radiator support and cooling fans. Before proceeding raise the vehicle by removing the two upper condenser mounting bolts. The transmission cooler quick disconnect tool (J44827) should be used for disconnecting the lower transaxle oil cooler line from the Radiator while preventing damage to both components. Use hose clamp pliers (J38185) to disconnect the lower Radiator Hose from the Radiator after which you should remove the lower condenser mounting bolts and Radiator side seal push pins allowing you to separate the side seals from the Radiator. The next step requires lowering the vehicle and completely removing the Radiator. To install the new Radiator position it in the insulator frame before installing and tightening the upper condenser mounting bolts to 6.5 nm (58 inch lbs.). Next raise the vehicle to finish installation of lower condenser mounting bolts before tightening them. Transfer the lower transaxle oil cooler lines into the Radiator until they exhibit connection then connect the lower Radiator Hose. The hose clamp pliers (J38185) enables the fitting of the clamp back on the hose allowing connection between auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler line and Radiator while installing the side seal pushpin with assurance of proper Radiator sealing. Continue with the vehicle lowering process to install cooling fans along with Radiator supports before executing coolant filling within the cooling system.
