• Q: How to replace the rack and pinion boot and breather tube on 2004 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: In order to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot and breather tube off the vehicle, first remove the outer tie rod using the key stone clamp pliers (J22610) and then the hexagon jam nut from the inner tie rod assembly. Then, remove tie rod end clamp off from the Rack and Pinion Boot and boot clamp in the Rack And Pinion with side cutters and throw the boot clamp away. If a breather tube will be present, note its position on the gear assembly before removing the Rack and Pinion Boot and the breather tube. For assembly, install a new boot clamp to the new Rack and Pinion Boot and grease the inner tie rod assembly and the rail and pinion gear assembly before screwing on the Rack and Pinion Boot to the inner tie rod assembly. If needed, attach the breather tube but ensure it is aligned to the mark that was made during take-off and the molded nipple of the Rack and Pinion Boot. Make the Rack and Pinion Boot not twisted or puckered. Adjust it manually if necessary before installing it into the gear assembly click. With the help of the keystone clamp pliers(J22610), fit up and crimp the boot clamp at the Rack and Pinion Boot then holding the boot clamp and sliding the tie rod end clamp onto the boot Rack And Pinion then hold the plier tightly to fix the 7 end clamp on the Rack and Pinion Boot . Lastly, install the hexagon jam nut to the inner tie rod assembly to finish assembling the outer tie rod assembly.
