How to replace the front side door hinge on 2004 Chevrolet Astro?

The replacement of the front side door hinge begins by removing the door. Correctly mark the existing hinges on the door and body pillar before eliminating the sealer near the hinge area. A center punch should mark each original weld on the base of the hinge before drilling 3.0 mm (1/8 in) pilot holes at the punch locations through the welds. The drill must stop short of penetrating either the body pillar or door. Drill a 13.0 mm (1/2 in) hole through the hinge base up to the pilot hole mark while preventing penetration of either the door or body pillar. A chisel will detach any remaining welds before the hinge gets removed. To install the new bolt on the replacement hinge, position it at the door or body pillar marks using the replacement hinge as guidance for center punching the bolt hole locations. Use a 13.0 mm (1/2 in) drill to make holes at the center punch marks in the door and body pillar then grind off remaining welds on the surfaces. The installation process begins by attaching the hinge with bolts and anchor plate where the wrench should reach 27 N.m (20 lb ft) torque. The last step involves door adjustment into the frame through the 13.0 mm (1/2 in) holes for proper alignment while also verifying lock fork bolt alignment with the striker when the door reaches a closed position.
