2004 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front crankshaft seal on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The replacement process starts with crankshaft balancer removal before proceeding to extract the crankshaft front oil seal. Both the J41478 and the Newcrankshaft oil seal need to be placed on a surface that is horizontal but slightly tilted towards a drain. Next, rotate the bolt by 2 turns while pushing the new seal in. Finally, remove the installer and secure the bolt with an 8mm sari-wing nut. The sealing surface of the oil seal requires no lubrication while it is essential to never reuse the crankshaft oil seal. Apply clean engine oil to cover both aspects of the new oil seal as well as the front cover oil seal bore. Install the oil seal onto the guide through the use of the Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer tool (J41478). The J41478 threaded rod installed with a nut, washer, guide and oil seal should be inserted into the crankshaft end before using the J41478 to mount the oil seal in the cover bore. Use one wrench to grip the hex portion of the installer tool yet another wrench should turn the nut in a clockwise direction to properly place the seal within the cover bore. You should check the oil seal for complete and uniform installation after using the tool for installation. Finally, reinstall the crankshaft balancer.
