2003 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2003 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Start by removing the engine Flywheel before you can change the crankshaft rear oil seal. Extract the crankshaft rear oil seal from its position in the rear cover through gentle prying. Avoid both oiling the crankshaft surface id region of the oil seal and utilizing any previously used crankshaft rear oil seals. Apply clean engine oil to the outside diameter area of the oil seal but keep the seal surface protected from contact with lubricants. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate the rear cover oil seal bore but you must ensure that the crankshaft surface stays free of oil or other lubricating fluids. Insert the j41479 cone and bolts onto the crankshaft's rear section while applying torque until a snug fit without forceful tightening. To proceed with installation place the rear oil seal onto the tapered cone before pushing it to the rear cover bore. This process uses the j41479 threaded rod to insert into the tapered cone then position the tool to contact the oil seal before placing the oil seal correctly onto the tool . Use the tool handle to turn clockwise motions until the seal passes through rear cover and settles into the cover bore. Install the engine Flywheel as the last step after removing the j41479 tool.
