2003 Chevrolet Corvette Rocker Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the valve rocker arm and push rods on 2003 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step involves removing the valve Rocker Arm covers to enable the positioning of valve rocker arms with valve pushrods and pivot support into a rack. Start the replacement by uninstalling the valve Rocker Arm bolts, the valve rocker arms, the valve Rocker Arm pivot support and the pushrods. The technician must clean and inspect each valve Rocker Arm followed by pushing rod examination. The valve rocker arms along with pushrods should receive clean engine oil for lubrication during installation. The valve Rocker Arm bolt flange also needs lubrication. The valve Rocker Arm pivot support should go in after the pushrods achieve proper seating in the valve lifter sockets and the pushrods should settle into the rocker arms. Place the rocker arms and their bolts on the engine without performing any tightening. The Crankshaft requires rotation until the number one Piston reaches top dead center (TDC) compression stroke position where cylinder number one rocker arms should be off lobe lift and the Crankshaft sprocket key needs to rest at the 1:30 position. While the number one firing position exists, apply torque of 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) to exhaust valve Rocker Arm bolts numbers 1, 2, 7, and 8 and the intake valve Rocker Arm bolts numbered 1, 3, 4, and 5. Double the Crankshaft rotation to 360 degrees prior to torquing exhaust valve Rocker Arm bolts 3, 4, 5, 6 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) then do the same with intake valve Rocker Arm bolts 2, 6, 7, 8 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Place and tighten the valve Rocker Arm covers to finish the operation.
