2004 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: A replacement of the Steering Knuckle starts with vehicle elevation and support. First remove the brake caliper and rotor before disconnecting the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm and removing the electrical connector for the Wheel Speed Sensor. Fix the lower Control Arm using a jackstand for support. Start by installing the j 42188 ball joint separator (J 42188) tool into the Steering Knuckle to split off the steering linkage outer tie rod ball stud and afterward separate the upper Control Arm ball joint stud and finally the lower ball joint stud from the Steering Knuckle. Remove the Steering Knuckle from your vehicle after the separation process completes. Begin installation by setting the new Steering Knuckle onto the control arms before uninstalling the jackstand to finally join the steering linkage outer tie rod ball stud with the Steering Knuckle. Screw in the stabilizer shaft link on the lower Control Arm while tightening the stabilizer shaft link nut to 72 nm (53 ft. Lbs.). First, connect the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connector before you place the brake rotor and caliper in position and install the tire and wheel assembly. To complete the procedure lower the vehicle then examine the front wheel toe before making any necessary adjustments.
