How to replace the front upper control arm on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?

Installation of new front upper control arms requires first supporting the vehicle in a raised position. Begin by taking off the tire-wheel set followed by disconnecting the real-time damping (RTD) sensor link. Place a jack stand under the lower Control Arm next set the ball joint stud nut while keeping it from removal. Install the j 42188 ball joint separator (J 42188) between the upper ball joint stud and upper Control Arm before removing the tool along with the ball joint stud nut. During upper Control Arm Bushing replacement check that shims maintain equal thickness across both sides because these parts determine camber and caster steering angles. After documenting the mutual positions and bolt numbers of upper Control Arm shims proceed with removing upper Control Arm bolts and shims before extracting the upper Control Arm from the vehicle. When installing upper control arms place them back into vehicle position and install the shims while following fastener notice in service precautions. Install upper Control Arm mounting bolts to both the upper Control Arm and frame rail while tightening them to 65 nm (48 ft. Lbs). Tighten the upper ball joint stud through the upper Control Arm with the aid of an allen wrench to prevent stud rotation until nut torque is 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). The ball joint stud should be tight to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) initially for seating purposes but should then receive another 250 degree turn until reaching 55 nm (41 ft. Lbs.) minimum final torque. Reconnect the real-time damping (RTD) sensor link while removing the jackstand to reinstall the tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle.
