You should press a screwdriver into the retaining clip edge on the strut top until it opens then take the strut off its upper ball stud. Twist the retaining clip on the lower part of the strut open and remove it from the lower ball stud. To install the new part place it first on the lower ball stud then fit it to the upper ball stud before closing the rear compartment lid.
