2004 Chevrolet Impala Oil Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine oil and oil filter on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Before changing the oil and filter start by lifting and supporting the vehicle while placing an oil drainage pan directly below the engine oil Drain Plug. Start by clearing the engine oil Drain Plug then evaluate its condition to determine if replacement or repair work is needed. Thoroughly check the Oil Pan sealing surface for damage before deciding whether to replace the entire Oil Pan unit. The procedure continues with removing the Oil Filter then inspecting and cleaning the adapter's Oil Filter sealing surface. Any damaged parts require replacement. Apply clean oil to the gasket area of a new Oil Filter before installing it to 3/4 to 1 full turn after the gasket makes contact with its mounting surface. After tightening the engine Oil Pan Drain Plug to 30 nm torque (22 ft. Lbs.) proceed to discard the oil drain pan and lower the vehicle. Pour new engine oil into the chamber before starting the motor for leak checks. Let the vehicle engine run with its power turned off while the oil sinks back into the Oil Pan for several minutes. Clean the indicator end of the oil indicator tube with a paper towel or cloth then reinstall it until the handle meets the tube's top edge. Inspect the oil level with the removed oil level indicator as its tip points downwards. Check oil level by adding or draining oil according to need then inspect for leakage.
