  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
    A: To change the Oil Pan, first hook off the negative Battery Cable, remove the fuel injector sight shield, andremove your air cleaner intake. Mount the engine support fixture and hoist up the vehicle. Rename the right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts from the Catalytic Converter and degas the engine oil and as well remove the Oil Filter. Remove the oil level sensor electrical connector and oil level sensor wiring harness bolt, moving the wiring harness away from the previous location. Starting from the lower nuts of the Engine Mount, lower the vehicle and lift the engine by using the engine support fixture. Lift the vehicle once more and remove the left and right Engine Mount bracket bolts, and the Engine Mount upper nuts. Then remove the Engine Mount and bracket from the frame and take off the torque covers. Before you remove the Oil Pan, extract the oil level sensor to avoid any destruction. Finally, take of the rhe bolts on Oil Pan and the Oil Pan itself, oil pump pipe screen assembly, and Oil Pan Gasket. Clean the oil pump screen mating surface, Oil Pan flanges, Oil Pan rail, front cover, rear main bearing, and threaded holes. For installation, install the Oil Pan Gasket and oil pump pipe screen assembly, and install and tighten the oil pump pipe screen bolts to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Before that put in the Oil Pan and cleanse Oil Pan bolts, apply one drop of thread lock gm p/n 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) on the threads. Secure the bolts of Oil Pan to 14 nm (125 inch lbs) and position the oil sensor of oil level into position making the required ratchets of 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the torque converter covers, engine mounts, and bracket to the frame, the Engine Mount upper nuts that should then be fastened at 43 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Loosely install the right and left Engine Mount bracket bolts and then tighten at 102 nm (75 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle, and utilize the engine support fixture to bring the engine down. Lift the vehicle a second time in order to install the Engine Mount lower nuts, torquing them to 43 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the oil level sensor wiring harness and bolt and tighten bolt to 10 nm (89 inch lbs), then connect the oil level sensor electrical connector. Install the right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts, torqueing then to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.), engine Oil Filter. Decrease the vehicle, unscrew the engine support fixture, and fit the right and left Engine Mount struts. Replace the air cleaner intake duct, refill the crankcase with engine oil, reinstall the fuel injector sight shield, and reattach the negative Battery Cable, respectively. Finally, inspect for leaks.
