2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: The replacement of the positive battery cable must begin with disconnecting the negative cable. The replacement cables should be exactly similar to the original cables in terms and dimension. The next step is to disconnect the positive battery cable along with removal of both ground wire bolt and frame ground wire and the remote positive stud cover. Remove the positive cable junction block lead nut as well as the positive cable from the underhood accessory wiring junction block. Rise the vehicle then securely support it before removing the front low air deflector. Work on the following hardware steps: Firstly separate the transaxle stud nut and the ground wire from transaxle stud and then disconnect the positive battery cable nut at the starter motor BAT terminal followed by removing the positive battery cable from the starter motor BAT terminal. Following the removal of the retainers (2,3,4) by pulling out the battery cable harness from its clips, extract both the battery harness and positive cable from the vehicle. The procedure begins with inserting the positive battery cable into the wiring harness conduit and mounting the battery cable harness to retainers (2,3,4). Use the positive battery cable to attach it to the starter motor BAT terminal before securing it with a nut tightened to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Fit the ground wire and the transaxle stud nut into position while tightening to 25 N.m (18 lb ft) then replace the front lower air deflector and let the vehicle lower itself. Secure the positive cable junction block lead nut to the underhood accessory wiring junction block while tightening it to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Repivot the remote positive stud cover and ground wire together with the frame bolt while tightening it to 10 N.m (89 lb in). To complete the procedure connect the positive battery cable followed by terminal bolt tightening to 15 N.m (11 ft lb) and then install the negative cable.
