- Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?A: The starting process begins by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery. Because starters cannot be repaired the entire unit requires replacement. Start by elevating the vehicle then take out both the lower air deflector and the torque converter cover assemblies. Start by removing the Starter solenoid bat terminal nut along with the positive cable from the Starter motor position. Keeping these trajectories separate feel free to remove the Starter solenoid s terminal nut while also disconnecting the Starter solenoid wire . Remove both the Starter bolts (1,2) and the Starter motor. Following alignment of the Starter motor with the engine position bolts 1 and 2. One should tighten them carefully until they reach the seat point before torquing them to 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Finger-tighten the Starter motor cable to the solenoid bat terminal nut before installing the Starter solenoid wire to the solenoid s terminal nut . Use 10 n.m force (89 lb in torque) on the Starter solenoid nut at the bat terminal while applying 2.3 n.m force (20.5 lb in torque) on the nut at the s terminal. To finish the makeup process install torque converter covers along with the lower air deflector while lowering the vehicle and connecting the negative Battery Cable.
