• Q: How to replace the Lash Adjusters on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?

  A: To remove the valve lifters, first of all, take off the Cylinder Head and gasket and thereafter remove the valve lifter guide bolts. If any valves lifters are seized because of gum or varnish deposits, be sure to apply the valve lifter remover (J 3049-A) to help remove it. Upon removing the valve lifters from the guide, group or label the parts for subsequent replacement. Inspect and clean the valve lifters before lubricate them and the engine block valve lifter bores with clean oil from the engine. Slip valve lifters into the lifter guides so that the flat portion on the top of the lifter will align with the flat part in the lifter guide bore and press the lifters all the way into the guide bore. Put back the valve lifters and guide into the engine block, put into place the valve lifter guide bolt and tighten it to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Last but not least, install the Cylinder Head and gasket.
